Beekeeping Adventures...

I am so excited - I thought I had missed my chance, but I haven't!

I have wanted to become a beekeeper for a good ten years now, but have either not had the opportunity, the land or the input.

And now....

Well it looks like it is meant to be this time, as I have all of the above!

In Switzerland, it is necessary to visit a Beekeeping course, and I managed to sign up for a place in this 2 year course yesterday!
Yesterday we learnt how to ready the frames for the spring and how to properly clean all of the hives.

Stefan contacted a local beekeeper here who has offered me the opportunity to help out over this bee season - Woohoo, and my sister-in-law has agreed to let me keep some hives at the bottom of her land, which is right next-door to where we live!

It definitely is looking like it is all coming together for our homesteading experience this year - so many good things to be grateful for :)

Gardening Planning Continued

Step 1: 

Here we have it - this is the plan for our garden this spring.

As you can see we have 3 beds of 1.20m (basically 6 square foot gardens) and one 0.60m bed - i.e. one more SFG bed.

The 6 big beds we will be using for our small household: 2 Adults, 2 Teens

The thin bed on the end is for Stefan's' Mom who would like a patch for some veg etc for herself.

The isles in-between the beds is 0.60m wide

As this kind of garden is really not known here it is getting interesting reviews so far ;) we will see what everyone thinks about our cool garden when it is there in 3D view :)

Wordless Wednesday #5

This morning, bright and early, and before the bad weather hit :(, 

Stefan and I went for a nice long walk in the woods.

We started off our walk crossing our new bridge, that now connects two of our villages, crossing over this amazing ravine.

Stefan was brave enough to hang over and take a picture :)
