Another Good Reason to "Grow" It Alone!

Here is another good reason to back up our decision to start our own garden.

This week I wanted to make some Cauliflower Cheese (A firm family favourite) and I thought I could quickly nip into the store to get some cauliflower. We usually buy frozen veg as I believe it to be the "Freshest" variety of veg that one can buy, but as our local grocer didn't have the frozen kind, I opted for fresh.

Obviously, the cauliflower came with its' outer leaves which, had I been a little more cheeky, I would have removed before weighing. But that would have been frowned upon, so I took the cauliflower with the least leaves home with me.

The tiny head came in at a whopping 1,234 kg, which would have been super had that all been cauliflower, right?

I then removed all the outer parts leaving me with a bag full of leaves and stalk.

I thought I would weigh it, just to see how much money we throw away for nothing much at all.

Well, I couldn't quite believe it, the outer trimmings of my wonderful cauliflower weighed in at just under half of the entire weight.

So guess what has definitely been placed on the "To-Grow" plant list?!!

Anyone have some good ideas for left over Cauliflower outside bits?

I have given the rests to my sister-in-law for the bunnies, but it would be nice to know of alternate plans for the future.
